Marion Kutz

(From Brenner Mortuary)

Marion Daniel Kutz, 88, of Pittsburg, passed away at 4:20 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2017 at his residence. He was born April 19, 1928 at Enid, OK, the son of Vern Bertus and Marguerite Ruth (Schideler) Kutz. He grew up at McCune and attended McCune and Parsons Schools, graduating from Parsons High School in 1946. On October 2, 1949, he was united in marriage to Bernice Marie Dutton at the Christian Church in Parsons, KS, and remained by her side the next 67 years, which Bernice says flew by.

Shortly after he exchanged vows, Mr. Kutz was sent over to Korea to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War, with an Honorable Discharge in 1952. He was a member of the John F. Derby Post #43 Frontenac American Legion also. His stint in the service led to his lifelong distaste for the color green, which he often reminded others. Marion and his wife Bernice owned and operated Kutz Music Co. close to 60 years. Over the years he taught accordion lessons, moved countless pianos, and sold everything from guitar picks and reeds to grand pianos and drum sets. For the past few decades, he referred to his job as more of a hobby than focusing on making money, although he rarely missed a day until his health declined. He enjoyed interacting with his customers, spending more time talking about life and music than trying to sell them something. Marion was also a loyal member of the Frontenac United Methodist Church, attending services on a regular basis. In his free time, Marion appreciated the simpler things in life -- bird watching, going out to eat, word puzzles, a good laugh, watching old westerns, and above all, spending time with family. He truly was grateful for any social gathering and despite his age, always participated in costume parties including dressing up as a member of KISS.

His insatiable sweet tooth was comical as he was always trying to get more dessert, especially when it came to lemon meringue pie. The family encourages those who knew him to have a slice of pie in honor of Marion. In addition to his wife, Bernice Kutz, he is survived by his five children: Karen Raymond and her husband Paul of Pittsburg, KS, Jim Kutz and his wife Chrissy, of Parsons, KS, Kenny Kutz and his wife Elizabeth of Pittsburg, KS, Susie Gardullo and her husband Bobby of Pittsburg, KS, and John Kutz and his wife Terri, of Frontenac, KS; twelve grandchildren, Josh Dillon, Leslie Harris and her husband B.J., Jeff Kutz, Alicia Evans and her husband Nate, Prather Kutz, Mandy Mosburg and her husband Ryan, Daniella Gardullo, Adrienne Kutz, Nicolette Gardullo, Koy Kutz, Alexis Gardullo, and Loren Kutz; three great grandchildren, Quorynn Harris, Liam Kutz, and Theo Evans. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Vivian “Vicki” Barnes and Joyce Tanner, and a great granddaughter Delylah Harris.

A service for Mr. Kutz will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday (March 16) at the Frontenac United Methodist Church with Rev. Annie Ricker officiating. Burial will follow in the McCune City Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to Frontenac United Methodist Church. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th Street, Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
