Mary Fuentez

Mary F. Fuentez, 78, of Parsons, passed away surrounded by her family at 12:01 a.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at her home.

She was born April 23, 1940 at her grandparent’s house in rural Strauss, Kansas to John and Lula (Wells) Myers. She attended Galesburg schools and excelled in music as a vocalist. She was a baton twirler and a cheerleader while in school. As an adult, Mary had lived in Chicago, Kansas City and in Parsons since 1972. Mary enjoyed sewing, making several dresses and clothing for her family and including several bridesmaid's dresses. She also was a wonderful cook and was well known for her homemade enchiladas she made for many people through the years. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and during her children’s school years was very active in the Parent Teacher Associations of each school.

On September 8, 1959 she and Felix J. Fuentez were married in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on March 22, 2001.

Survivors include her children; Joe Fuentez (Robin) of Parsons, Nancy Steinert (Terry) of Erie, Robert Fuentez (Laura) of Parsons, Cindy Fuentez-Allen (Chris) of Parsons, Teresa Fuentez of Parsons and Tony Fuentez (Brandy) of Parsons; 17 grandchildren, Amber Barragar, Tessa Santangelo, Robbie Carlson, Heather Bushnell, Eli Fuentez, Ryan Young, John Fuentez, Nicohle Bushnell, Joshua Gatton, Tiffany Hinman, Tamara Harrison, Dakota Hinman, Drake Fuentez, Abby Munding, Drew Fuentez, Chloe Lubbers and Izzy Fuentez; 23 great grandchildren; brother, John Myers of Fredonia; sisters, Joyce Bevans of Parsons, Bev Shutts (John) of Dahlonega, GA and Diane York (Jim) of Torrington, WY; and her dogs, Chloe and Peter.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Tina Bynum, 2 grandchildren, Christina Bynum and Stacey Bushnell; 3 brothers, Robert, Larry and Charles Myers. 

The family will have a Celebration of Mary’s Life and receive family and friends from 2-4 p.m., Saturday at the Wall Family Center (2605 Main St.) in Parsons. Memorials are suggested to a fund that will be used for children in need at Christmas time in the Parsons area. Checks will need to be made to the Fuentez Family and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357.
