Owen Dunlap

Owen Archie Dunlap, 79, of Girard, died at 12:55 a.m., Monday, September 17, 2018 at his residence.

Owen was born January 22, 1939 at Pittsburg, Kansas, the son of Dr. William H. and Thelma (Tate) Dunlap. He grew up in Girard and graduated from Girard High School in 1957.
Owen received a Bachelor of Science degree from Pittsburg State University.
Owen served in the US Air Force from October 21, 1959 until September 6, 1963.
He worked as a supervisor and press operator at Perfection Forms in Girard before retiring in May of 2007.

He married Louise Ann Gruss on August 22, 1980 in Painesville, Ohio. She survives of the home.
Owen was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church at rural Girard and he enjoyed attending church, helping send Bibles all over the world, singing, hunting, fishing with his grandchildren, and playing his trumpet.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Louise, of the home, are his sons, John Owen Dunlap of Ponder, Texas, Glenn Jakubowski of West Virginia, and Joseph Jakubowski of Knoxville, Tennessee; his daughter, Joanne Benson of Nashville, Tennessee; sixteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren.
Owen was preceded in death by a daughter, Gwenolyn Young, and a sister, Betty Jean Zust.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Crossroads Baptist Church at rural Girard with Pastor Mike Buckamneer officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery with Military Honors given by the Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Parsons, Kansas.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Thursday.
