Hildegard Granneman

Hildegard Wilhelmina (Jagels) Granneman, 98, Girard, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at the Arma Health and Rehabilitation in Arma, Kansas.

Hildegard was born January 23, 1920 near Hepler, Kansas, a daughter of Theodore and Lillie (Mein) Jagels. She received Christian Baptism on February 8, 1920 at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Hepler and was confirmed in her Christian faith at Immanuel on April 9, 1933. She attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School and Hepler Rural High School graduating on May 16, 1939. She continued her education at Central Business College in Kansas City, working at Quartermaster Corps in Kansas City for several years before returning to Hepler and working for the Hepler State Bank for 15 years.

Hildegard married Walter L. Granneman on May 6, 1945 and they farmed near Hepler until his death on May 6, 2003.

Hildegard was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, serving for many years as a Missionary League officer, teaching Sunday school, planning funeral meals, as youth group sponsor and was active in the Women’s Bible Study group. She was also a member of Gem Seekers Study Club of Hepler.

Survivors include her daughters, Rosalie Atwood of Canton, Georgia, Carol Anderson, and her husband, Bob, of Overland Park, Kansas, and Marla Ulbrich, and her husband, Vernon, of Girard; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Clara Granneman of Baldwin City, Kansas.
Hildegard was preceded in death by her brothers, Alwyn, Otto, and Paul Jagels; a son-in-law, Robert Atwood; two infant granddaughters.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church at rural Hepler with Pastor Jay Hobson officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Hepler.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m., Sunday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Girard Medical Center and these may be left at the church or the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
