Dakota Puffinbarger

Dakota Scott Puffinbarger, 17, of Pittsburg, formerly Girard, died Monday, June 8, 2020 at his residence. 

Dakota was born May 5, 2003 in Pittsburg, a son of Chris and Amy (Stephenson) Puffinbarger. He grew up in Girard and attended Girard schools before moving to Pittsburg where he was attending Pittsburg High School. 

Dakota was active in sports, playing defensive end and tackle in football, throwing shot put and discus in track, baseball and basketball. 

Dakota was in Welding program through the C-Tech program at PSU and planned to enter the Automotive Technology program. 

Dakota enjoyed his family, fishing, and playing X-Box. 








Survivors are his parents, Chris and Janice (Puckett) Puffinbarger of Pittsburg and Amy Stephenson of Frontenac; siblings Shyanne Puffinbarger, Dominik Lopez, Cruz Lopez, Carson Puffinbarger, Connor Puffinbarger, all of Pittsburg; paternal grandmother Kathie Puffinbarger, of Girard; maternal grandmother Beth Kissner of Pittsburg; maternal grandfather, Bill Stephenson of Frontenac; uncles and aunts, Aaron Puffinbarger and Kaisha of Quapaw, Oklahoma, Michael Puckett, and his friend, Michelle Gates, of Girard, Sarah Carson and Alex of Kansas City, Missouri, Tressie Gates and John of Frontenac and Jenny Stephenson of Frontenac; stepgrandmothers Susan CarMickle, and Billy, of Girard and Joyce Scroggins of Pittsburg; numerous cousins. 

Dakota was preceded in death by his grandfather, Alan Puffinbarger, on September 1, 2016, and his stepgrandfather, Ronald Puckett, on August 6, 2002. 

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, June 18, 2020 at St. Michael Church Hall in Girard with Elder Vivian Davidson officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m., Wednesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Tuesday. 

Memorials are suggested for family wishes and these may be left at the service or the funeral home at 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
