Russell Long

Russell E. Long, 64, longtime Erie resident, died at 8:56 a.m., Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Elmhaven East Nursing Home in Parsons.

He was born June 16, 1953, in Parsons, to Earl E. and Melba Nadine (Noakes) Long. He graduated from Erie High School and attended a vocational program in upholstery and cabinet making at Pittsburg State University. 

Russell operated an upholstery shop in Erie and enjoyed taking care of livestock in his younger years. He was interested in family history and enjoyed family gatherings. He loved to visit with people and play cards and dominos. His special domino friend at Elmhaven was June Miller. He had worked at the East Hill Cemetery in Erie and Living Skills in St. Paul and also liked to do woodworking in addition to his furniture upholstering. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Erie and of the Erie Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by a sister, Linda Gail Meyer and husband Don and two nieces, Melba Meyer and Aurora Meyer, all of Hadley, New York. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles and cousins. His twin sister, Rebecca Nadine Long, preceded him in death.

Funeral plans are indefinite. Memorials are suggested to the Erie Public Library and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357.
