Helene Rhuems

Helena Ella (Wettstein) Rhuems, a child of God, passed away at 11:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at the Via Christi Village, Pittsburg.

She was born January 10, 1933, at Pittsburg, KS, the daughter of Richard A. and Josephine (Murry) Wettstein. She attended St. Mary's grade school and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1950.

On July 25, 1951, she was united in marriage to Orville Dean Rhuems, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Pittsburg. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1991.

Membership was held in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Pittsburg, where she was member of the Altar Society. Mrs. Rhuems also served as a Pink Lady at the Via Christi Hospital and was a member of TOPS of Pittsburg.

She is survived by two sons, Rich Rhuems, and his wife, Tandra of Pittsburg, and Chris Rhuems and his wife, Carol of Pittsburg, two sisters, Freda Ann Peaster of Pittsburg and Jeanette Morey and her husband, Don of Pittsburg, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Josephine Wettstein and one grandson, Tyler Rhuems.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 21, 2018, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Pittsburg, with Father Michael Baldwin as Celebrant. Private family burial will take place at a later date in the Highland Park Cemetery, Pittsburg. A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, at the Brenner Mortuary. The family will receive friends following the Rosary until 7:30 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
