Deidre Spahn

Deidre Carlene Spahn, 41, of Weir, Kansas, passed away at 10:33 p.m. Thursday, September 14, 2017 after a long battle with cancer.

She was born May 1, 1976 at Girard, Kansas, the daughter of Jeffrey Owen and Karen Joy (Hibbs) Johnston. She graduated from Southeast High School and then graduated from Pittsburg State University with a degree in Elementary Education.

On April 26, 1997, she was united in marriage to John David Spahn at the First Church of the Nazarene in Pittsburg. He preceded her in death on August 5, 2012.

Deidre owned and operated the Daisy Hill Daycare in her home.

Membership was held in the First Church of the Nazarene and the Heart of the Heartlands.

She is survived by two sons, Bryson Spahn and Kyler Spahn of the home; a daughter, Karlena Spahn of the home; her mother, Karen Johnston of Pittsburg; two sisters, Miranda Caskey and her husband, Joey of Pittsburg and Andrea Pflumm and her husband, Paul of Springfield, MO; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Larry and Kathy Spahn of Weir, KS; a sister-in-law, Susan Bestor and her husband, Randy of Arma, KS; Maternal grandparents, Larry and Carlene Johnson; grandmother-in-law, Maxine Short; and nine nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jeffrey Johnston; and her husband, John David Spahn.

A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday (Sept. 19) at the First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Kyle Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Hosey Hill Cemetery, west of Weir. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Children’s Education Fund. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg.
