Marilyn Frazier

(From Derfelt Funeral Home)

Marilyn Denise (Watkins) Frazier, age 61, went to be with her Lord surrounded by her loving family on February 24, 2017 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. She was born on June 17, 1955 to Carlos LeRoy Watkins and Shirley Joan (Wilkerson) Watkins in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Marilyn enjoyed life and especially enjoyed serving her Lord Jesus Christ through giving. Her love of community and the many activities organized was evidence of her giving spirit throughout her 16 years managing the Galena Kansas Sonic Drive-In. Her giving spirit soared and blossomed in the course of her life through a variety of outreach programs. Marilyn’s beloved First Christian Church of Galena, Kansas provided opportunities to “give to many and love them all”. She was the joyful cook of numerous meals and hundreds of children in the God Squad Missions. While a dedicated four-year member of the W.H.O. (Willing Hearts Helping Others), Marilyn’s heart and hands were always busy filling “Joy Boxes” with crocheted nursing home booties (fifty-two booties to be exact) and forty plus wreaths for Emerald Pointe residents. She shared her talents, dedication, and love by organizing Back to School clothing give-a-ways, cooking and packing homemade Thanksgiving dinners for Souls Harbor guests, and volunteering at the Galena Community Thanksgiving dinners. There are too many activities to mention wherein Marilyn shared her love of Christ.

Marilyn attended Galena Schools graduating with the class of 1973 from Galena High School. She married Leroy Breedlove September 2, 1972. Born to this union were two sons, Tony Ray Breedlove and Shannon Glenn Breedlove. Marilyn later married Roy Alvin Frazier of Baxter Springs, Kansas. Additional survivors include her mother, Shirley Joan Watkins of Galena, Kansas; three sisters, and one brother, Carla JoAnn Wade of Galena, Kansas, Kenneth Duane (Donna) Watkins of Atchison, Kansas, Sherri Rae (Gilbert) Wilkins of Galena, Kansas, Mae Lee (Joseph) West Sr. of Galena, Kansas. Marilyn’s twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren cherished the love of their “Maw-Maw”. Included survivors are her mother-in-law Donna Smith and in-laws Debbie, Troy, Tony, and Wynona. Preceding Marilyn in death was her father Carlos LeRoy Watkins.
