Carl Sopata

Carl J. Sopata, 79, of Pittsburg, passed away at 8:20 a.m., Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Pittsburg Care and Rehabilitation Center. 

He was born on January 14, 1938 at Swoyerville, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph and Francis (Lencoski) Sopata. He moved to the Pittsburg area in the early 80’s. Mr. Sopata served in the United States Army. 

He married Barbara Lewis Sopata and they later divorced. Mr. Sopata was of Catholic faith and attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He is survived by a son, John Sopata; four grandchildren, Sarah McCauley and her husband, Chad, Hannah Sopata and her husband, Joey, Ashley Burger, and Christopher Sopata; three great-grandchildren, Emeral McCauley, Jazper McCauley and Marley Johns; two brothers, Joseph Sopata and his wife, Judy and Michael Sopata and his wife, Ann Marie; and four sisters, Rita Yuhas, Francis Giadosh and her husband, Robert, Ann Marie Golemdeski and her husband, Tony, and Eleanor Barber. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sons, Dan Sopata and David Sopata. 

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 22), at the Brenner Mortuary with Fr. David Voss officiating. Memorials can be made to the SEK Humane Society.
