Betty Filby

Betty J. Filby, 91, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died at 8 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020, at the Via Christi Village in Pittsburg, KS.

Betty was born March 19, 1929, in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Lloyd and Viola (Bennett) Scott. The family moved to a farm in rural Weir in 1930. She was a graduate of Weir High School and lifelong resident of the area. 

On Sept. 11, 1947, Betty married LeNell Filby in Weir, KS, at the Weir Baptist Church. 








A loving mother and homemaker, Betty was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. During Christmas, she would bake many different treats for family and friends. She also was an avid bowler in the women's league. She loved the outdoors, gardening and planting flowers. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for her compassionate spirit, kind heart, cooking and baking skills.

She is survived by her husband of almost 73 years; her brother, Neal Scott and wife Shirley of Weir, KS; children, Wilma Wehmeyer and husband Ron of Pittsburg, KS, and Kenneth Filby and wife Linda of Pittsburg, KS; grandchildren, Rhonda Phillips, Carla Wehmeyer, Melissa McGuire, Jennifer Dickinson, Brianna Filby and Kevin Filby; 6 great-grandchildren; 5 nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy Bennett; nephew, Steve Scott, and niece, Cathy Ward.
