Willie Payne

Willie Jewell Payne 93 of Miami passed away Sunday June 11, 2017. She was 93.

She was born June 25, 1923 in Durant, OK to Willie “Bert” and Lilly Pearl (Roy) Favors. She married Doris D. Payne on March 10, 1940 in Durant. She moved to Picher in 1956, where she raised her 11 children as a single mother. She was a loyal hardworking mother that devoted her life to raising her children. She loved Picher and loved her Picher people. She lived in Picher until she was forced to move after the tornado and the Picher buyout. She moved to Miami in 2007 residing with her son David the last 10 years.

She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Baxter Springs, KS. She worked as a waitress and various jobs to support her children. She was an Ottawa County Senior Companion Volunteer since April 1990 until her health failed in 2013 and received an award for 20 years of service in 2010. She loved her many clients.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 sons, Virgil Payne, Charles Payne, Darrell Payne and Jerry Payne and 2 daughters Lilly Dardenne and Darlene DeSilva. 3 grandaughters Michelle (Kelly) DeSilva, Gayla Payne and Willie Ross and 4 grandsons Bobby Barr, Michael Barr, Randy Payne and John DeSilva and 3 brothers L.V. , Bud and Lee Favors and 4 sisters Betty Jo Mullins, Martha Olsen, Beulah Salle, Nathalena Hammett and Jackie Sloma.

Willie is survived by 1 son who she resided with David Payne and wife Alice of Miami, 4 daughters Wanda Barr of Baxter Springs, KS, Pat Rutherford of North Miami, OK Debra Crumrine and Mickey Jo Bogle and husband Jim all of Chetopa, KS and 1 sister Caril Stanfield of Talent, OR. 156 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK. Rev. Charles Clevenger will officiate. Interment will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, OK. Pallbearers will be Darrell Rutherford, Terry DeSilva, Jr., Gary Wayne Ross, Rocky Payne, Charlie Payne and Jake Payne. Honorary Pallbearers will be Curtis Payne, DeWayne Payne, Tommy DeSilva and Tim Rutherford. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
