Lorene Louise Zaccarello 94, of Columbus, KS died 7:45pm Sunday January 15, 2017 at the Medicalodge Nursing Home in Columbus, KS following an illness.
Lorene was born October 11, 1922 in Turck , KS the daughter of Oscar and Louise (Cowsill) Scott. Lorene was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Columbus High School in 1940.
On November 14, 1945 Lorene married Frank Zaccarello at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, KS; he preceded her in death on June 14, 2016.
During WWII Lorene worked at the Garment Factory in Columbus, KS and later Doty’s Grocery Store and McGee Drug Store in Columbus, KS.
Lorene was a member of the St. Rose Catholic Church in Columbus, KS; Ladies Auxillary VFW; was a Pittstate Football Fan and Columbus Titans athletics supporter.
Survivors include her son Mike Zaccarello and wife Sandy of Sapulpa, OK; grandchildren Cassie Gilman, Michelle Holdgrafer and Tammy Chambers; 5 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00am Friday January 20, 2017 at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Columbus, KS with Fr. Jeremy Huser as celebrant. Burial will follow at the St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Scammon, KS. Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm Thursday January 19, 2017 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus, KS; family will receive friends following the rosary. Public viewing will be after 12:00pm Thursday. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
