Josie Nettels, 90, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Via Christi Hospital.
She was born, Mary Joanne Meyer in Great Bend, Kansas on December 2, 1926, to Grace and Allen Meyer. Josie attended the University of Kansas and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She later became a flight attendant with TWA before meeting George Nettels at the Teepee in Lawrence, Kansas, on a blind date.
Josie was united in marriage to George in July 1952. They have four children, Chris Nettels (Angelyn), Meg Lindsey (John), Kate Faerber (John) and Becky Sloan (Steve). She is survived by eleven grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Josie was a Pink Lady at Mount Carmel Hospital and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was known of her love of the ocean and her collection of sea shells. She was a devout Catholic, wonderful, loving wife and raised her family well.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Pittsburg, KS, with Father Michael Baldwin as Celebrant. Private Family Burial will be in the Highland Park Cemetery. A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m., Friday, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. The family will receive friends following the Rosary until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund. These may be left at the church or mailed to Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
