Charles Englehardt

Charles M. Engelhardt went to be with the Lord on Monday.

Engelhardt, 92, passed away at approximately 10:40 a.m. on Jan. 9, 2017, at Via Christi Village in Pittsburg. He was born April 21, 1924, to Charles and Marie (Sloan) near Moran, Kansas.

He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family and two weiner dogs — Cocoa and Wendy. He was also a practical joker — giving nicknames to one of his daughter’s boyfriends and claiming the engraving on his headstone was on the wrong side.

In 1943, he married Maxine Ansell. They later divorced. Together they had two children: Sherry (Engelhardt) Willis, husband Donald, of Newton, and Vicki (Engelhardt) Conkright, husband Jim, of Lenexa.

He later married Barbara Hitch. In 1977, he moved his family to Pittsburg to work as a salesman at Marrone’s. He retired in 1999.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Barbara (Hitch) Engelhardt, of Pittsburg, sister Linda (Engelhardt) Wood, of Chula Vista, California, his daughters and stepsons: Tim Curtis, wife Marva, Louis Curtis, wife Marianne, and Kelley Curtis; grandchildren: Mark Willis, wife Cathy, Mike Willis, wife Susan, Erika McMinn, husband Gordon, Beth Shelby, husband Scott, Marcie Seiler, husband Drew, Tanner Curtis, Keith Curtis, wife Erin, Amy O’Crowley, husband Michael; great grandchildren Carly Willis, Sydney Willis, Matt Willis, Jamie Willis, Brett Shelby, Chance Willis, Brooklynn Shelby, Paige McMinn, Gianna O’Crowley, Marianne O’Crowley, Cecelia O’Crowley, Kayla Seiler, Addi Seiler, Gabriel Seiler, Zella Curtis and Sullivan Curtis; and great great grandson Greyson Reynolds.

A public viewing will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg.

A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12 at the funeral home. The service will be officiated by Reverend Adah Hutchcraft and Chaplain William James Schafer.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at Grace United Methodist Church, where Charles was a member, and Avalon Hospice. Those funds can be dropped off at the funeral home, 522 S. Broadway Street in Pittsburg. Condolences may be left at the website, bathnaylor.com.
