Robert E. Cochran, Sr., 82, a resident of Chanute, formerly of Girard, died at 4:04 P.M. Monday, October 22, 2018 at the nursing home.
He was born May 25, 1936 at Ulysses, KS, a son of John Cochran and Opal (Johnson) Cochran. He was raised at Girard and attendee school here. He moved to Loveland, CO then to Pueblo where he worked at a door company, delivering doors. In 1980 he moved to Chanute and was first employed at the saw mill. He later worked at a Texaco gas station, a car wash and then worked 15 years in maintenance for Wal-Mart.
On April 16, 1967 he and Barbara Jean Davis were united in marriage at Pueblo, CO. She preceded him in death on August 9, 2007.
He was Baptist. His hobbies included woodworking and auto mechanics.
Survivors include: three sons – Robert E. Cochran, Jr., Yates Center, KS, Tim D. Cochran, Pueblo, CO, Don Cochran, Pueblo, CO; one step-son – Alan Lloyd Smith, Colorado Springs, CO; three step-daughters – Regina Wenger, Iowa, Evelyn Irene Cox, Colorado Springs, CO, Debbie Diane Tenpenny, Chanute, KS; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister – Joann Clugston, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister – Marilyn Kearney and one granddaughter – Brittany Rene Cochran.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O.
