Darrell L. “Giz” Gilmore, 74, of Parsons, passed away at 2:13 p.m., Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
He was born on January 24, 1944 at Parsons to Roy and Avis (Snyder) Glimore. He grew up at Parsons and attended Parsons schools graduating from Parsons High School in 1962.
Giz served in the United States Army and Army Reserves from 1963 until he was honorably discharged in 1972. Following his military service he returned to Parsons.
He worked as a truck driver, propane gas delivery person, and at Power Flame as a sheet metal fabricator. Giz retired in 2005.
He and Cecilia Luman were married on June 13, 1970 at Parsons. The later divorced.
He enjoyed hunting and reading and watching westerns. He was a member of the member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Parsons and a member of the Parsons Elks Club No. 527 BPOE.
Giz is survived by his daughter, Belinda McKee of Parsons; four grandchildren, Chelsea McKee, Aidan McKee, Antonio Archuleta, and Dylan Logston; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, Cliff Gilmore in 2008; his parents; a brother, Lawrence “Gene” Gilmore; and a sister, Linda Burris.
A memorial visitation will be held at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday, October 25, 2018 with military honors conducted by the Brown-Bishop Post No. 704 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Parsons. Burial will be held in the Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.
