Mary Bear Gourd of Miami, OK passed from this life on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Windridge Nursing Center in Miami. She was 77.
Mary was born November 12, 1941 in Miami to Kenneth and Georgia Lee (Warner) Bear. She had lived in the Miami area most of her life. She graduated from Central High School in Tulsa in 1959 and received her Associates Degree from Crowder College. She was a member of the Quapaw Tribe.
Mary worked as a bartender for many years and also was a coordinator for Quapaw Bingo.
She was preceded in death by her son, John David Cockrell, a grandson, John DeSilva, her parents, a brother, Kenneth Bear, Jr. and a sister, Georgiana Bear Burns.
Mary is survived by 3 daughters, Gina Henson of Baxter Springs, KS, Tarah Stevenson and Tamarah Bear both of Miami, OK, a brother, T.C. Bear and wife Diana of Miami, OK, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 21, 2019 at Quapaw Tribal Building east of Quapaw, OK. Rev. Geoff Buffalo will officiate. Interment will be in G.A.R. Cemetery of Miami with Victor Greenfeather, Pete Sharp, Phillip Burns, Jan Kellough, Michael Selby and Adams Enochs serving as pallbearers. Native American rites will be conducted by Ranny McWaters. Mary will lie in state a the Quapaw Tribal Building. Services have been placed in the care of Paul Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami, OK.
