Frances Irene Thompson, 87, of Weir, passed away at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the Truman Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lamar, Missouri. She had been in failing health for the last 5 years.
She was born January 20, 1931 at Weir, Kansas, the daughter of Frank “Frenchie” and Grace E. (Jones) VanKam. She graduated from Weir High School in 1948 and had been a lifetime resident of Weir, Kansas.
On December 23, 1950, she was united in marriage to James R. Thompson at Weir. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Thompson was a devoted homemaker and had volunteered as a Pink Lady at Via Christi Hospital.
She was of Christian faith.
Survivors include three sons, Dale Thompson and his wife, Kathi of Cherokee, Kansas, Michael Thompson and wife, Kelley of Weir, Kansas and Mark Thompson and his wife, Debbie of Weir, Kansas; a daughter, Pam Wydick and her husband, Joe of Weir, Kansas; two brothers, Emile VanKam and Bill VanKam; one sister, Vikki Zaccarello; a sister-in-law, Shirley Williams; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Thompson, a brother, Frank VanKam and four sisters, Margaret Ross, Mildred Genser, Anna Uber and Dora Friend.
Services will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday (Jan. 4) at Family Life Assembly of God Church, 1234 N. Rouse, Pittsburg with Dale Thompson, son, and Jared Wydick, grandson, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 5) at the Hosey Hill Cemetery in Weir, Kansas with Randy Woods officiating. Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Weir Public Library and or Vie Medical Clinic of Pittsburg. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
