Hugh “Gene” Good, 83, of rural Oswego, formerly of rural Parsons, died at 7:20 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2020 at the Chetopa Manor at Chetopa.
He was born November 20, 1936, at Rural Oswego, a son of Walter Hugh and Lucy Irene (Nading) Good. He started school at the former Service School at Strauss. The family moved to the Bender Mound area west of Dennis where he attended school through the eighth grade. He attended Labette County Community High School at Altamont, graduating in 1954.
Gene and Joann Shepard were married May 27, 1955 at the former Evangelical United Brethren Church in Parsons. She survives of the home.
He was employed at Crane Sheet Metal Co. from 1955 to 1985 and from 1985 to 1994 he raised cattle. In 1994 he began working for Orscheln Farm and Home, retiring in 2007.
Gene and Jo have been faithful members of First Baptist Church in Parsons for many years and Gene had served on the Trustees Committee. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, attending family reunions and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Jo; two daughters, Terri Hellwig (Mark) of Oswego, and Sandra Good of Prospect Park, PA; two grandchildren, Amy Ford (Bryan) and Craig Hellwig (Jessi); five great-grandchildren, Brynlee, Kruz and Kasen Hellwig and Milo and Maverick Ford; five sisters-in-law, Barbara Gofourth of Parsons, Kay Good, Chanute, Pat DeMott of Bernice, OK, Joy Blackburn, of Dennis and Doris Shepard of Wichita, KS.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Hugh and Lucy Good, a son, Billy Good, a sister, Shirley DeMott and two brothers, Kenneth Good and Steve Good.
Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, at the First Baptist Church, with Pastor Travis Ball officiating. Burial will be later at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday. Friends may also sign the register at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
