James “Jim” Richard Towner, 79, of Pittsburg, KS, died on Monday, July 30, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on June 17, 1939 in Pittsburg to John J. Towner and Nadine H. (Thompson) Towner. Jim was lifelong member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, a graduate of St. Mary’s Grade School and of St. Mary’s High School in 1957. In 1963 Jim graduated from Kansas State College of Pittsburg (PSU).
He served six years in the United States National Guard.
On June 13, 1964, Jim married Beverly A. Windsor at Our Lady of Lourdes in Pittsburg. She survives of the home.
Mr. Towner sold real estate before taking over the Towner Farm in 1974, which he ran until 1993, when his son took over. They farmed and raised Hereford cattle.
Membership was held in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
In addition to his wife Beverly, he is survived by two sons, Jimmy Towner of Pittsburg, KS, and John Towner and his wife Beth of Girard, KS; two daughters, Mary Curlee and her husband, Wade of Frontenac, KS, and Susan Richardson of Girard, KS; a sister Zoe Ann Ryan and her husband Ray of Pittsburg, KS; a sister-in-law, Dolores Towner of Pittsburg; six grand-children , Zach Richardson and his wife, Aria, Dante Richardson, Jessica Lake and her husband, Aaron, Emily Curlee, Camryn Towner, and Jake Towner,
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John Bennett “JB” Towner, and a son-in-law, Matt Richardson.
Mass of Christian Burial is set for 10:30 a.m., Friday (August 3) at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Jorge Lopez as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery, Pittsburg. A parish rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Brenner Mortuary. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
