Elizabeth Ann Kelly, 87, a lifetime resident of Frontenac, KS, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Via Christi Hospital.
She was born February 24, 1931 to Joseph and Elizabeth (Mouser) Kelly in Pittsburg, Kansas. Elizabeth graduated from St. Mary’s High School, attended Kansas Teachers College and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Elizabeth was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of Garden Club. She enjoyed being involved in different activities but her favorite accomplishment was horseback riding.
She purchased her first horse, Old Bill, when she got her first job in 1961 at the Jones Store in downtown Pittsburg. Elizabeth worked as a bookkeeper for McNally in Pittsburg and Natural life Pet Products.
In 1999, Elizabeth purchased and began arena- showing her Arabian horse, Electra. She was a member of the Four- State All Breed Horse show Association and during March through October she would show Electra at least once a month for competitions at the Royalty Arena in Carthage.
She enjoyed competing in trail rides and two day events that covered 50 miles. Elizabeth won trophies, ribbons, and belt buckles as adult high point rider, adult high point western rider, and adult high point hunt seat rider – each riding style requiring different techniques and posture.
Elizabeth never married and had no children but she treated her horses like her kids. She would get up every morning, provide hay and clean out stalls both at her place and at the barn where she was boarding Electra in an indoor arena.
She committed her life to serving those around her and joyfully shared her love for horseback riding with all who met her.
Elizabeth is survived by many cousins who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents and several cousins.
