Courtney Landrum, 51, of Pittsburg, passed away Friday, August 17, 2018 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.
He was born February 2, 1967 at Decatur, Illinois. His father is Ajay Landrum, Jr. and his mother’s name is Dorothy Dian (Ross) Landrum. His father was serving in the U.S. Army at the time of Courtney’s birth.
Courtney was admitted to Parsons State Hospital and Training Center when he was 12 years of age. He also resided at Tri-Co of Osawatomie, Kansas and New Horizons of Pittsburg. He transitioned to New Hope Services in 2008 and remained there until his passing.
Courtney was non-verbal and his eyesight was failing, but he was able to communicate through facial expressions and body language. Courtney could be pleasant and friendly and he would smile and wave at those he cared about. His hugs and pats were the best when he gave them because you knew then that he loved you.
Courtney loved to swing, listen to music, go bowling, spend time outside, and go riding around. Courtney’s favorite foods were popcorn, pop, fried chicken, and hamburgers. The greatest signs of affection that friends could show him was to rub his head and give him hugs. He understood those actions by others were signs of affection.
Many people improved the quality of Courtney’s life while he was at New Horizons and New Hope. They became his family and loved him deeply. He had the same roommates for many years and they became his family as well. He will be sadly missed by his New Hope family. Memories of Courtney will live on in the minds and hearts of those who knew him.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday (August 24) at Crocker Cemetery, southeast of Pittsburg. Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery. Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary.
