Betty Hizey

Betty J. Hizey, 84, of Erie, died at 6:41 P.M., August 2, 2018 at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village at St. Paul.

She was born April 16, 1934 at Colcord, Oklahoma, a daughter of Lehman Archie and Mary Eliza (Dill) Creed. She lived in California three years with her family and then near Siloam Springs, Arkansas. The family moved to Parsons in the 1940’s.

On November 24, 1950 she was united in marriage to Ralph J. Hizey at Erie. Mr. Hizey served in the U.S. Army and the couple lived in various communities he was stationed in. They moved to Oregon in 1964, to Parsons in 1969 and to the Erie area in 1973. She was employed as a cook at the former 59 Truck Stop and CafĂ© at rural Erie and from 1990-1996 she worked at Pete’s One Stop at Erie. She cooked part-time at the R & F Farm Supply in her retirement. Mr. Hizey preceded her in death on October 7, 1996.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church at Erie. She enjoyed flowers, birds and gardening.

Survivors include: two sons and daughters in law – Rodney D. and Christine Hizey, Parsons, Kansas, Ray G. and Martha Hizey, Erie, Kansas; two daughters and sons in-law – Pamela L. and David Harris, Erie, Kansas, Tina M. and Kevin Steele, Marion, Kansas; eleven grandchildren;
twenty-Three great-grandchildren; one brother – Ted Creed, Coffeyville, Kansas; one sister – Vita Kinsch, Parsons, Kansas. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers – Bill and Clarence Creed; one sister – Donna Strader and one son – Randy Hizey.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home at Erie with Rev. Danny Flippo officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Galesburg. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 Wednesday evening at the funeral home at Erie.
