Mary Barbara Perello 102, of West Mineral, KS died 2:40pm Thursday March 9, 2017 at the Medicalodge Nursing Home in Frontenac, KS. She was known as “momma” by the help and residents at the home.
Mary was born November 13, 1914 to Ignatz and Rosie (Sigler) Gross of Stone City, KS. She attended Pleasant Hill Country School though the 8th grade.
Mary and Bart Perello were united in marriage on November 30, 1939 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, KS. They resided in West Mineral throughout their married life. Bart preceded her in death on March 21, 1995.
In addition, she was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers Ignace Gross, John Gross and wife Edna, Frank Gross, Joe Gross, Mike Gross and wife June and one sister Rose.
Mary is survived by two daughters Mary Ann Martin (husband Carl Ed) and Rose Marie Wilson (husband Jim) of West Mineral, KS; 8 grandchildren Jim and Bev Martin, Kenny and Becky Martin, Karla and Doug McGuire, Mike Martin, Mindy Garrett, Diana and Steve Coble, Jamie Wilson and Jeff and Heather Wilson; 3 step-grandchildren Eddie Sears, Jill and Buel Pool and Ashley Davis; 13 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter; a sister-in-law Mary Gross the wife of Frank of Sugar Creek, MO also survives.
Mary devoted her life to her family; a mother who loved babies and could entertain children; she was an excellent cook and proved it every Sunday and holiday at noon when she had her family for dinner. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in West Mineral, KS and later St. Bridget’s and their Altar Societies.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00am Wednesday March 15, 2017 at the St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, KS with Fr. Jeremy Huser as celebrant. Burial will follow at the St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery in Scammon, KS. Rosary will be recited at 7:30pm Tuesday March 14, 2017 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir, KS; family will receive friends following the rosary. Friends may call the funeral home after 12:00pm Tuesday. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be a mass for Mary Perello or a donation to St. Bridget’s Catholic Church Building Fund.
