Irene Myers

Ellen “Irene” Myers, 95, of Pittsburg, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017 at her home in Pittsburg. 
She was born August 15, 1921 in Pittsburg, KS, the daughter of Nick and Edna (Locke) Billionis. She was a lifelong resident of Pittsburg, graduating from Pittsburg High School, class of 1939. Irene retired from the Kansas Teachers Credit Union in 1986. She also owned and operated the Lakeside PX across from Lakeside school for several years in the 1950’s and 60’s. 

On February 10, 1940, she married Lonzo “Lon” Myers in Girard, KS. The couple celebrated 76 years of marriage together. He preceded her in death at age 95 on February 6, 2016. Irene was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Pittsburg, where she attended regularly until her failing health. She is survived by a son, Roy Myers, of Springdale, AR; two daughters, Sandy Myers and Joannie Melton, both of Pittsburg; grandchildren, Stacy Hamblin (Murle), Curt Cunningham (Tanessa), Steve Melton (Deni), Bendy Cunningham (Tony) all of Pittsburg, Whitney Taylor (Brandon) and Nick Myers of Springdale, AR, Hope Pruitt and Nicola Rice (Jonathan) of Broken Arrow, OK; 23 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert “Bob” Billionis of Pittsburg; a sister, Joyce Gorney of Broken Arrow, OK and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Athena and brother-in-law, Clifford Hite, and sister Cleo Dyer Smith, Tulsa, OK, sister Mary and brother-in-law Dick Spencer, Pittsburg, brother-in-law John Gorney, Broken Arrow, OK and infant sister Lorane Fae; son-in-law Gary Melton, Pittsburg, KS and infant grandson, Chad Cunningham, Pittsburg, KS.

A combined funeral service will be held for Irene and her son Roy Myers, on Tuesday March 14, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 816 E Quincy St, Pittsburg with Rev. Jim Sukraw and Rev. C. L. Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until service time on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to The Nazarene Church or Shriners Transportation Fund.
