Belle “Jean” McGowan, age 87, of Columbus, Kansas died Monday, July 20, 2020 at Medicalodges of Columbus.
She was born January 16, 1933 to Bruce and Edna (Fox) Atchley in Memphis, Tennessee.
Jean was a receptionist at SKILL as well as many trades throughout her life and was a member of the Central Christian Church in Joplin, Missouri.
She enjoyed listening to gospel hymns, playing with her grandchildren, writing down inspirational quotes and bible verses that touched her and eating hamburgers at pickle jeans most weekends.
She enjoyed the simple pleasures of spending time with her family and laughing. She had a loud and wonderful laugh. She was a firecracker with hair dye in one hand and a vibrant personality. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her daughter; Sue (Larry) Napier of Columbus, Kansas, three sons; Charles Jr. (Elizabeth) McGowan of Columbus, Kansas, Cole (Debbie) McGowan of Huxley, Iowa, David (Debbie) McGowan of Columbus, Kansas, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and a grandchild.
Graveside services will be 10 am, Friday, July 24, 2020 at the Columbus Park Cemetery in Columbus with Pastor Alan McCamey officiating. Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery for the services.
