Nancy L. Miller, 81, of Parsons, died Monday, September 24, 2018 at her home.
She was born December 5, 1936 in Cherryvale, a daughter of Everett Cassius and Mildred Fern (Blair) Norton. She was raised in Cherryvale and attended elementary school there until her family moved to Parsons when she was in approximately the fifth grade. She graduated from Parsons High School and attended Parsons Business College.
On October 24, 1954 she was united in marriage to James Walter Miller at the First Baptist Church at Parsons. He survives of the home. They loved each other dearly and would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary next month.
She was first employed as a switchboard operator for the telephone company. From 1965 until 1977 she was the bookkeeper for her husband’s company, Jim Miller Construction. She also worked as the secretary and office manager at the First Presbyterian Church for approximately 25 years, retiring in the early 2000’s.
Nancy was a member of the First Christian Church and had attended First Baptist. She played the piano at the Christian Church. She also sang in the church choir at both churches. In past years she was a member of the Jaycee Jaynes, Job’s Daughters, the Progress Chapter 49, Order of Eastern Star and the American Baptist Women.
She and her beloved husband spent many years at their cabin on the lake at the Katy Rod and Gun Club. She was the secretary of their board. She shared her musical talents singing and playing the piano as part of a weekly live radio spot in her early adulthood. Her interests included being with her family and friends, reading books, playing the piano for her own enjoyment, nursing homes and the Parsons Senior Center. She also enjoyed painting and working on many types of crafts.
In addition to her husband, survivors include: one son and daughter in-law – Gary Lee and Jodie Miller, Ozark, MO; two daughters and sons in-law – Pamela Ann and Trent L. Alexander, Ft. Worth, TX, Jeanette and Vince Horton, Parsons, KS; eight Grandchildren – Adrienne Williams, Springfield, MO, Drew L. Alexander, Amarillo, TX, James Miller, and his wife, Julie, West Plains, MO, Vanessa S. Stanfield, and her husband, Devin, London, England, Samuel Miller, and his wife, Kayla, West Plains, MO, Allison Garcia, and her husband, Richard, Weston, FL, Scott Horton, Dallas, TX, Sydney Miller, Ozark, MO; ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 28, 2018 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Laurie Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 Thursday evening at the CARSON-WALL FUNERAL HOME. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church and may be left at the funeral home, P.O.
