Norma Leona Peterson, age 76, passed away at 7:15 pm, Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Galena Nursing Center, Galena, KS following an illness.
Norma was born November 7, 1940 in Galena, KS. Her parents were William Henry and Arietta Ann (Sweet) Anderson.
She graduated from Galena High School in 1958, and returned home to this area in 2005 after retiring as Manager of Service Master after 25 years. During that time, she received the Marion E Wade Award for Excellence and her name was inscribed on the Wall of Service at the corporate office in Memphis, TN. Her last position with the company was with the Franciscan Missionary Brothers at St. Joseph’s Hill Infirmary and Price Memorial in St Louis, MO. She had previously lived 15 years at Villa Ridge, MO.
She attended Riverton Friends Church, Riverton, KS and volunteered at church services at Quaker Hill Manor, Lowell, KS. She had been a member of the Motor Maids of Missouri for 18 years. She was a past Missouri Chapter President. Norma traveled to every state in the continental USA. She was very athletic and played softball, basketball, and bowling. She was an avid Cardinal baseball fan. She always made a special effort to attend her grandchildren’s activities and games.
She was first married to Jerry Gaines. She later married Larry Allen Peterson in Miami, OK. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her twin brother, Norman (Wic) Anderson, brother, Ralph Anderson, sister, Hazel Bankson, and grandson, Ryan Bailey.
Surviving are two sons, Dustin Gaines (wife, Melissa), Springfield, MO, and Alan Gaines (wife, Addie) Branson, MO; one daughter, Marcia Murry (husband, Jerry) Riverton; 6 grandchildren, Brandi Martin (Zack), Chet Gaines (Tabi), Joshua Gaines (Becca), Morgan Garvin (Casey), Jessica CLark (Kyle), and Cyle Bailey (Penny); 6 great grandchildren and a host of others that she loved as her own.
A memorial service will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Pastor Jeff D Martin and Pastor Wes Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Christian Motorcycle Association would be appricated.
