Hilda Kasjaka

Hilda Kathryn Kasjaka, 98, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018, at Via Christi Village, Pittsburg, KS.

She was born July 24, 1920, at Franklin, KS, the daughter of Spartico C. and Hilda (Suppanz) Mannoni. She graduated from high school in Detroit, MI.

On August 23, 1941, she was united in marriage to Raphael J Kasjaka in Detroit, MI. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1997.
Mrs. Kasjaka was a homemaker.

She was 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of the Methodist Women’s Association, Homemakers Sunday School Class, Eagles Women Bowlers, “Webelow” Boy Scout Den Mother of Troop 73, and AARP.

She is survived by a son, Kurt Kasjaka and his wife Nikki of Pittsburg, KS; three grandchildren, Lisa Case and her husband David of Overland Park, KS, Amy Haynes of Arlington, TX, and Scott Kasjaka of Pittsburg, KS; four great-grandchildren, Craig T. Kasjaka, Gabrielle Kasjaka, Kathryn Case and Harrison Case.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, an infant daughter, Karen Rae Kasjaka and a son, Craig D. Kasjaka.

Mrs. Kasjaka has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorials to the Harry Hynes Hospice. Glen Swan

Glen James Swan Jr, age 65 passed away at 4:15 am, Tuesday, November 27, 2108 at Freeman West Hospital following an illness.

Jim was born April 20, 1953 in Joplin, MO. His parents were Glen and Madge IShaffer) Swan Sr. He was a lifetime resident of Galena.

Jim graduated from Galena High School with the class of 1971. He then became a certified electrician. He worked at Gulf Chemical Plant, Riverton, KS for 13 years. He later worked at Able Body in Joplin for 6 years.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Galena. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Surviving is one son, Jacob Allen Swan; his mother, Madge Swan and his sister, Lola Wade all of Galena.

He was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena KS for cremation.

The family will host a memorial service at 10:30 am, Monday, December 3, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, Galena, KS. Rev Dorcia Johnson will officiate.

Charisse Naylor

Charisse Lynn Senecaut Naylor, 64, of Girard, died at 9:06 a.m., Friday, November 23, 2018 at her residence.

Charisse was born June 4, 1954 in Girard, a daughter of William and Rose Mary (Burgar) Senecaut. She grew up and attended schools in Girard where she was in the school band and she was a twirler. She was a devoted stay-at-home mother. 

Charisse was an active member of 4-H and she traveled throughout Europe.

She graduated from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas and she was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority.

Charisse married David Naylor in November of 1981 at Scammon. They divorced.

Survivors are a son, Kyle Naylor of Cleveland, Ohio; her daughters, Ann Naylor of Pittsburg and Nichole Naylor of North Canton, Ohio; her grandchildren Mary Naylor and Quinn Antonelli; her mother, of Girard; her sisters, Cindy Southard and Mandy Diskin, both of Girard.
She was preceded in death by her father.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard.

Sandy Peoples

Sandra Kay “Sandy” Peoples, 54, of Parsons, died at 2:25 p.m., Thursday, November 22, 2018 at Freeman West in Joplin, MO.

She was born June 1, 1964 in Fresno, CA to Birdie Charles and Violet (Wiltfong) Ward. Sandy grew up in California and attended schools there before moving to Parsons in 1982. She had worked at Sonic, Sweet Willies, Labette Health and SKIL all in Parsons. Sandy enjoyed dancing, cooking, swimming and rock climbing.

She and Timothy Peoples were married in March of 1985 and later divorced.

Survivors include two daughters, Krystal Wheeler and Samantha Ward both of Parsons; two grandchildren, Amanda Wheeler and Kamryn Wheeler; one brother, Jimmy Ward of Taft, CA; nephew, Andrew Ward of Bakersfield, CA; stepfather, Russell Carson of Parsons, and many other adoptive children.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Wayne Kanute

Wayne C. Kanute, 61 of Brazilton, Kansas, passed away at 8:50 P.M., Saturday, November 24,
2018 at this residence.

Wayne was born June 26, 1957 in Parsons, Kansas, a son of Gerald F. and Patricia (Ginn) Kanute.
He attended school in Girard, graduating from the Girard High School. 

At the time of his death, Wayne was employed by Industrial Crating of Saint Paul; he was previously employed by Derailed Commodity of Brazilton and Poli-tron of Pittsburg.

He enjoyed collecting antique engines and working with the Buntin Auction Service; a passion that lasted several years. Wayne considered the Buntin Family his second family and they considered Wayne as a son.

Wayne was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.

Survivors include his mother, one brother: Don Kanute and his wife Gayle of Erie, Kansas, one nephew; Jacob Kanute, one niece; Carlee Kanute of Erie and several Aunts and Uncles.
Wayne was preceded in death by his father and one brother; Rick Kanute.

Services for Wayne Kanute will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the St. Michael Catholic Church of Girard with Fr. Floyd McKinney as celebrant;  burial will follow in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Walnut, Kansas. Rosary will be Wednesday, November 28 at 7:00 p.m. at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home with visitation to follow.

Friends may call at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home after 2:00 p.m., Wednesday.

Phillip Porras

Phillip Jesse Porras, 71, lifelong Parsons resident, died at 1:30 A.M., Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Labette health, following a long-time battle with Parkinson’s.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at the Memorial Lawn Patio. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until service-time at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home at Parsons. Bill Marquardt

Billy D. “Bill” Marquardt, 84, of Parsons, died at 8:15 p.m., Friday, November 23, 2018 at Elmhaven East Nursing Home.

He was born on December 8, 1933 in Longton, Kansas to William and Oletha (Adams) Marquardt. Bill moved with his family to Parsons when he was eight years old and attended Parsons Schools. After high school he was in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956. 

Bill worked for Boeing Aircraft as a Jet Engine Mechanic from 1957 to 1970, the MKT Railroad as a switchman from 1970 to 1991 and after retirement as a part-time mechanic at Harper’s Automotive.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Erie where he served as an Elder and taught adult bible classes. He loved Jesus, his church and reading God’s word every day. He especially loved his family and spending time with them. Bill also enjoyed woodworking.

Bill and Joan (Lyles) Milliner were married on August 11, 1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Parsons. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Bradley Marquardt of Parsons and Mark Marquardt, and his wife, Kim of Parsons; seven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne Marquardt, and his wife, Pat, of Parsons and Paul Marquardt of Parsons; one sister, Dolores Stiles of Thayer. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Redstone Hoppock and a brother, Allen Marquardt.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Parsons with Pastors Jay Hobson and Jonathon Scheck officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors given by Brown-Bishop Post No. 704 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
