Stephen Bunce

Stephen Michael Bunce of Miami, OK passed from this life Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Integris Miami Hospital in Miami, OK. He was 61.

Stephen was born February 25, 1957 in Miami, OK to Raymond and Marie (Underhill) Bunce. He had lived in Miami for the past 10 years moving from Baxter Springs, KS. He was a heavy equipment operator for Bingham Sand and Gravel in Treece, KS.

Stephen was preceded in death by a son Gabriel Bunce and his parents.

Survivors include 2 sons Dustin Bunce of Topeka, KS and Brian Bunce of Miami, OK, brother Denny Bunce of Grove, OK, sister Becky Smith of Miami, OK and 5 grandchildren.

Earl Bangert

Earl J. “Casey” Bangert, 95, a Pearl Harbor survivor, of Frontenac, passed away at 5:10 a.m. Sunday, October 14, 2018 at the Oakview Estates in Frontenac.

He was born March 7, 1923 at Avon, South Dakota, the son of William H. and Katherine (Sattler) Bangert. He grew up in Iowa.

On December 13, 1940, at the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy in Great Lakes, Illinois. He served during World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor after it was bombed by the Japanese on Dec. 7, 1941. He was serving aboard the U.S.S. Monaghan, which was one of three ships that made it out to sea during the early morning attack. Later he transferred to the USS Case where he remained until he returned to the United States and left the military. A year and three months later, he reenlisted for a total of 20 years, also serving in the Korean War as a chief electronics technician and was honorably discharged on October 5, 1960 in Seattle, Washington.

Following his discharge, he worked for 35 years for the Federal Aviation Administration as a radar technician.

On June 13, 1988, he was united in marriage to Sandra Lee Blair at Reno, Nevada. They enjoyed traveling across the United States and Canada in their R.V. They moved back to Pittsburg in 1997.

Mr. Bangert was a member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed playing golf. He also loved to play the organ.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Karen Schilf of Honolulu, Hawaii; two stepsons, Curtis Oxford and Steven Oxford, both of Glendale, Arizona; several nieces and nephews, including Cathy Bank, Francie Maxwell, Carol Ann Starr, and Candice Reiley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Sandra Lee Bangert, three brothers, Paul, Stanley, and Alvin and 4 sisters, Velma, Barbara, Billie, and Luella.

A Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday (Oct. 23) at Brenner Mortuary with Chaplain Dennis Uchtman officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy Funeral Detail. Burial of his cremains will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Oakview Estates Activity Fund or Angels Among Us. Lelia LaForge

Lelia LaForge, 99 of Girard, passed away at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, October 14, 2018 at her home after a short illness.
Lelia was born September 28, 1919 in rural Girard to Fern and Goldie (Maish) Graham.

Her grade school years were spent at Slifer School near Girard. She graduated from the Girard High School in 1938.

She married V.J. “Bud” LaForge on June 28, 1938 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church at Greenbush, Kansas. 

She spent the majority of her married life raising her family and working side by side with her husband on the farm. He preceded her in death in 2001.

She was a member of St. Michael Church in Girard. She was previously a member of St. Aloysius Church at Greenbush.

She is survived by a daughter: Phyllis Cambers, and her husband, Bill, of Tucson Arizona, a grandson; William J. “Bill” Cambers, and his wife, DeAnn, of Girard who looked after her family interests and maintenance and helped her with her home and other needs. She has 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a daughter; Dorothy Horton, sisters; Ruth Delange and Jessie Wilson, a brother; Fern Graham Jr. and a great-great-grandson; Cooper Klepac.
Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home; visitation will follow. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 18, 2018 at St. Michael Catholic Church with Fr. Floyd McKinney as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Girard Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and these may be left at the church or mailed to the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W. St. John, P.O. Box 258, Girard, Kansas 66743.

Valeria Bagby

Valeria Anne Bagby, 66, of Owasso, Oklahoma, died October 9, 2018 at her home of an illness.
She was born November 29, 1951 in Weir, KS the daughter of Emmitt and Donna Wahl. She was graduated from Columbus High School in 1969.

She married Karl Richard Bagby Jr. on January 10, 1970 in Timmons Chapel on the campus of Pittsburg State University.

Mrs. Bagby worked as a medical receptionist and after retirement she enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her husband Karl of the home, three daughters Karla Snell and her husband David of Owasso, OK, Michelle Barry and her husband Justin of McPherson, KS and Jenny Vittitow and her husband Rick of Kansas City, KS, one brother Marvin Wahl and his wife Dorothy of Columbus, KS, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Mike Wahl.

Private burial will be in the Hosey Hill Cemetery in Weir, KS. Arrangements are by the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir, KS. A memorial has been established to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home.

Tricia McGinnes

Patricia A. “Tricia” McGinnes, 50, of Parsons, died Wednesday morning, October 10, 2018 in the emergency room of Labette Health.

She was born August 8, 1968, in Parsons, to Ralph and Marion (Perry) Whittley. She attended Parsons schools.

On February 12, 1993 she and Jesse McGinnes were married in Miami, Oklahoma. He survives.

Tricia was employed several years by SKIL as a caregiver. She retired in 2010 for health reasons. She attended the Calvary Baptist Church and loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She loved to garden, when her health permitted.

She is survived by her husband, Jesse; two daughters, Jessica Gamble (Matthew) and Cheyenne Weir (Cody) and four grandchildren, Beau, Cassie-Ann, Davina and Freya, all of Parsons; five brothers, Ralph Whittley, Jr. (Arra) and John Whittley (Robin), of Altamont, Randy Whittley (Karen) of Parsons, George Whittley (Nelda) and Willie Whittley, of Oswego; three sisters, Carolyn Housley (Roy) and Peggy Kepley (Danny), of Parsons and Cosette Essig, of Independence; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Frances McGinnes, of Parsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, infant Rose Marie Whittley and Cassie Anderson.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, with Rev. Rodney Howell officiating. Burial will be in East Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Operation Bright Touch. Anne Hudson

Anne Marie Hudson, 67, a devoted wife, mother, and nonnie passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at her residence.

She was born November 26, 1950, at Pittsburg, KS, to Joseph A. and Margaret A. (Lavery) Caruso. She graduated from Frontenac High School in 1968. She then graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Education, as a reading specialist.

On August 4, 1973, she was united in marriage to Donald Hudson at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac. He survives at the family home.

Anne worked for USD 250 at Pittsburg Middle School and Westside Elementary until she retired in 2006. After retiring, she worked for Greenbush as a reading consultant.

Membership was held at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, and Chapter CP PEO.

In addition to her husband, Don, she is survived by two daughters, Rachel Hanson and her husband, Chris of South Lyon, MI, and Amanda Sukraw and her husband, Jamey of Pittsburg, KS; two sons, Jesse Hudson and his wife, Erica of Pittsburg, KS, and Will Hudson and his wife, Jenna, of Slinger, WI; two sisters Karen Smith and her husband, Chris of Pittsburg, KS, and Rita Caruso of Frontenac, KS, and eleven grandchildren, Lizzie, Anessa, and Abby Hanson, Maleia, Brynn, and Syler Sukraw, Karter, Keaton, and Greyson Hudson, Maria and Margaret Hudson; and her nieces and nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter, Anissa Hudson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 15, 2018, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Clay Kimbro as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Frontenac. The parish rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the church followed by a visitation until 8:00 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Memorial Fund. Quintella Fulton

Quintella (Jones) Fulton, 80, of Parsons, died at 3:05 a.m., Monday, October 8, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin;

She was born May 8, 1938, at Picayune, Mississippi, to Richard L. Jones and Lela May James. She grew up there and met Hiram A. “Art” Fulton, who was serving in the U.S. Air Force. They married on November 8, 1955 at Kessler Air Force Base at Biloxi, Mississippi. She completed her G.E.D. and attended a cosmetology school.

The couple lived in various places while he was serving in the military and came to Parsons in February of 1966. She had been employed at the Fred Ronald Garment Co. and later worked as a hairdresser and as a CNA at nursing homes. She was a member of the Hamilton Chapel United Methodist Church and some of her hobbies included sewing, fishing and playing bingo.

Quintella is survived by her husband, who survives of the home; a daughter, Quinzella Fulton-Ivory, of Parsons; two sons, Hiram Fulton, Jr., of Fort Worth, Texas and Sandy Williams, of Parsons; eight grandchildren, including Alexzandria Ivory, of Kansas City, Missouri and Quinique Y. Pike and husband Jordan, of Kansas City, Kansas; 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by five brothers. Preceding her in death were two sons, Prentiss Fulton and Donald Fulton.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at the Hamilton Chapel, with Riley Cartwright officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
