Russell Long

Russell E. Long, 64, longtime Erie resident, died at 8:56 a.m., Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Elmhaven East Nursing Home in Parsons.

He was born June 16, 1953, in Parsons, to Earl E. and Melba Nadine (Noakes) Long. He graduated from Erie High School and attended a vocational program in upholstery and cabinet making at Pittsburg State University. 

Russell operated an upholstery shop in Erie and enjoyed taking care of livestock in his younger years. He was interested in family history and enjoyed family gatherings. He loved to visit with people and play cards and dominos. His special domino friend at Elmhaven was June Miller. He had worked at the East Hill Cemetery in Erie and Living Skills in St. Paul and also liked to do woodworking in addition to his furniture upholstering. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Erie and of the Erie Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by a sister, Linda Gail Meyer and husband Don and two nieces, Melba Meyer and Aurora Meyer, all of Hadley, New York. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles and cousins. His twin sister, Rebecca Nadine Long, preceded him in death.

Margaret Ash

Margaret Ann Ash, 72, of Parsons, passed away at 8:32 a.m., Friday, May 04, 2018 at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center.

She was born on February 24, 1946 at Wichita, Kansas to John Oliver and Margaret (Pankratz) Ash. She grew up at McPherson and attended schools there.

She resided at the Westview Nursing Center at Peabody, Kansas and the Topeka State Hospital before moving the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center in 1996. She worked at Copies and More on the Parsons State Hospital Campus.

She enjoyed shopping, listening to Christian and Country music, reading her Bible, volunteering with community projects, going out to eat, going to casinos, visiting with family and friends, and being outdoors with her dog, Rudy. She attended the First Baptist Church in Parsons.

Among her survivors are a sister, Joan Ash of McPherson, KS; her guardian, Sandra Kruse of Gypsum, KS; and her Parsons State Hospital and Training Center family.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Chaplain Randy Cook officiating. Eula Crabtree

Eula M. Crabtree, 84, of Pittsburg, passed away at 4:03 p.m., Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Medicalodge of Frontenac.

She was born May 9, 1933, at Granby, MO, the daughter of Lester F. and Maggie (Rodgers) Gilbreath.

She was united in marriage to Earl Crabtree. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Crabtree worked as a laundry supervisor at New Horizons for 20 plus years before her retirement.

Membership was held in the Church of Christ, Pittsburg.

She is survived by four sons, Michael Gregg of Pittsburg, Dennis Gregg of Mulberry, Steven Gregg of Pittsburg, and Douglas Gregg of Croweburg, two stepsons, Dallas Crabtree and Jerry Crabtree both of Kansas City, MO, one stepdaughter, Mary Culey of Independence, MO, one sister, Doris Redd of Pittsburg, and multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Marvin Gilbreath and Roger Gilbreath.

A service for Mrs. Crabtree is set for 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2018, at the Brenner Mortuary with Minister Jerry Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in the Crocker Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home on Monday. The family suggests memorials to the New Hope Special Olympics. Craig Levi

Craig Franklin Levi, beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on April 28, 2018 after a long illness.

He was born January 31, 1958 to Cass and Mary Lou (Innis) in Pittsburg, Kansas. He lived in Pittsburg most of his life where he worked as a barber/hair stylist for many years. He also worked at Mercy Health as a medical coder.

In addition to his parents, Craig was preceded in death by his Grandfather, Frank Innis and Grandmother Susie (Graham) Innis.

Craig is survived by his two brothers, Brent Levi and his wife Pam and Todd Levi, a sister Susan Terrill, and her husband Roger and his lifelong friend, Chris Pakitsos and his wife Kim. Craig has many nieces and nephews, Lauren (Terrill) Moreland, Troy Terrill, Brandon Levi, Candice Pakitsos, Shana Pakitsos and Krystel Pakitsos-Rummans and great nieces and nephews, Kenlee Moreland, Estella Pakitsos and Milo Rummans. He will be missed but remembered fondly by family and many friends and neighbors.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2018, at the Brenner Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Angels Among US. Deloris Tighe

Deloris A. Myers-Tighe, 81, of Parsons, passed away at 3:45 p.m., Monday, April 30, 2018 at her home.

She was born on November 15, 1936 at Hulbert, Oklahoma to Thomas Woodrow and Edna Mae (Howell) Boston. She attended schools at Hulbert and Parsons.

She worked at the Labette County Medical Center as a nurses aide 1968 to 1973. She then moved to Martinez, California where she worked as a substitute teacher. She moved back to Parsons in 1982 where she worked at Wal-Mart.

She attended the First Assembly of God Church and enjoyed arts and crafts.

She and Billie Jo Myers, Sr. were married on January 18, 1953 at Parsons. He preceded her in death on May 11, 2006. She and Jack Tighe were married on December 15, 2007 at Adair, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on January 18, 2012.

Deloris is survived by two sons, Ricky Myers, Sr. of Parsons and Steve Myers, Sr. of Labette City; one daughter, Patricia Baker of Adair, Oklahoma; 26 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother Arlie Boston of Tulsa, OK.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelly Kenworthy; a son Billie Joe Myers, Jr.; a granddaughter, Rebecca Renee Myers; her parents; and two brothers, Charlie and Jerry Boston.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Crawford officiating. Burial will be held in the East Bethany cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening. Bill Thomas

William D. “Bill” Thomas, 89, lifelong Parsons resident, died at 11:55 a.m., Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wichita.

He was born June 7, 1928, in Parsons, to Earl H. and Ethel (Maples) Thomas. He graduated from Parsons High School in 1946.

Bill served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, during the Korean War. Throughout his adult life he worked as a carpenter in the construction trade, building new homes and remodeling. He was a member of the First Christian Church.

On October 24, 1948 he and Genevieve Compton were married in Parsons. Together they loved to collect antiques and attend auctions. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2015.

Bill was preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. Thomas and a sister, Betty Ellis Locke. 

He had lost touch with another sister, Shirley Cougar, who lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It is uncertain if she survives.

Services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery Patio, with Rev. Laurie Lewis officiating. Veteran honors will be provided by the Brown-Bishop Post # 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Kevin Fultz

Kevin E. Fultz, 53, of Parsons, died at 11:58 a.m., Friday, April 27, 2018 at Labette Health in Parsons. 

He was born November 12, 1964 in Eureka, Kansas to William “Bill” and Nancy (Neill) Fultz.

He has been associated with Class Ltd. for many years and has gained many friendships there over the years.

Survivors included his father and step mother, Bill and Nancy Fultz of Wichita; brother, Kirk Fultz of Orlando, FL; sister, Patricia Fultz of Topeka; step brother, Mike Buchanan of Wichita; step sister, Michelle Buchanan of Kansas City, Kansas; good friends and caregivers, Linda Sprague and Michael Brown both of Parsons.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont.
