Harriette graduated from Cherokee County Community High School in 1944 and attended Kansas State Teacher’s College, Pittsburg, KS.
Harriette married Virgil A Buckner on February 16, 1946. They were happily married for 72 years. Virgil preceded Harriette in death in May, 2018.
She was an accomplished pianist and accompanied the First Christian Church Choir for many years. Harriette began work for the Cherokee County Welfare Department, which later evolved into the Kansas State Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services where she worked for many years retiring in 1988.
Survivors include her son and wife, Brent and Barbara Buckner of Oklahoma City, OK; granddaughter Beth Ann and husband Gary Kilpatrick and their children, Emily and Cade Kilpatrick of Woodway, TX; granddaughter, Belinda and husband Chris McAuliffe and their children, Riley and wife Lindsay McAuliffe, Grand Forks, ND, Redd McAuliffe, Blackwell, OK, and Rhett McAuliffe , Oklahoma City, OK.
Family graveside services will be held at a later date at Park Cemetery, Columbus, KS.
Memorials in Harriette’s name can be made to the First Christian Church, Columbus, KS in care of Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, KS.
