JoEllen (Niegsch) Hellwig, 70, of Pittsburg, passed away Friday morning, April 13, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born April 3, 1948 at Pittsburg, the daughter of Leo T. and Betty M. (Rondelli) Niegsch. She attended St. Mary’s grade school and graduated from Southeast High School.
On June 22, 1968, she was united in marriage to G.W. Pete Hellwig at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Chicopee. He survives at the family home.
Mrs. Hellwig worked as an office manager and dental hygienist for Dr. Kazmierski for many years and then as an office manager for Dr. Baker for several years.
Membership was held in the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
In addition to her husband, Pete Hellwig, she is survived by two daughters, Christie Hurt and her husband, Richard of Monett, Missouri and Jennifer Hellwig of Pittsburg; a son, Matt Hellwig and his wife, Melissa of Overland Park, KS; two brothers, John Niegsch and his wife, Lisa of Pittsburg and Paul Niegsch and his wife Judy of Pittsburg; and six grandchildren, Spencer, Ethan, Abby, Kaitlin Hurt, Graham and Whit Hellwig.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday (April 17) at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Clay Kimbro as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:15 a.m. until service time Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the American Cancer Society. These may be left at or mailed to Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
